Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing technique that involves a light, hands-on touch to help channel healing energy through the body. This energy-based practice helps to balance the body's natural energies, promoting physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. Reiki is known for its numerous benefits, including stress relief, improved sleep, and effective pain management.
Intrigued, I decided to enroll in a Reiki training program. At the end of the program, administrators from San Diego's largest hospital invited us to volunteer with their patients. Tears filled my eyes as I realized that, for the first time in my life, Western medicine was embracing Eastern healing practices. It was a profound moment of validation, and I've been volunteering ever since as a member of the hospital's Integrative Healing team.
I wasn't seeking to be a Reiki practitioner - Reiki found me. After several unsuccessful auditions at big-box yoga studios, I questioned whether teaching yoga and hosting retreats was still my true calling. I attended a vision board workshop to gain clarity. and something extraordinary happened. As I held my vision board for a photo, bright rainbow spectrums began to appear out of my hands. This wasn't the first time - similar phenomena had occurred during other photo sessions for my yoga practice.
It is a light hands-on (or auric), technique allowing universal energy to promote physical, emotional, and overall wellbeing.
Reiki has been shown as an effective tool for stress reduction, pain relief, emotional balance, and assist in overall relaxation.
Most recipients are laying down in a comfortable position with their eyes closed. Reiki can also be administered when a person is sitting in a chair. There may or may not be music and can last anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour.
Reiki is non-invasive and is safe to try alongside other treatments.
